LESBOS North - Ypsilometopo

Ypsilometopo is located in the northern part of the island of Lesvos, 55 km from the town of Mytilene. It is a small and picturesque mountain village. Its main church, a three-aisled basilica of Taxiarches, was built from local dark rock, called trachyte.

About 1 km from the village Ypsilometopo one may visit the chapel of Saint Dimitrios, built on the ruins of an early Christian three-aisled basilica, which was 30.1 m long and 15.8 m wide.

The area Aslani is a place of magnificent natural beauty, with water springs and plane trees ideal for relaxing.

The biggest and most popular folklore festival (“panigyri” in Greek) in the area is the dedicated day of Saint Marina, celebrated July 17.
