LESBOS East - Pamfila

It is believed that the village was named after the poetess Pamphili, who is contemporary of  Sappho. Archaeological findings were discovered at the hills of Atiganos and Anemomylos ( early copper era). Another noteworthy monument is the three aisled Basilica of St. Barbara with the huge dome which is  12m tall and 3 m wide. Its constructed ( 1878) with sculpted marble elevations by the sculptor Giannis Halepas, the son of another famous sculptor, Giannoulis  Halepas.

At Skala Pamphilon, the old deserted factories (Attkinson, Vostani, etc.) reveal the importance of this area in the industrial past of Lesvos. Nowadays all that you can do here is to visit the picturesque taverna, serving delicious home made food and seafood delicacies.
